The FCC is getting ready to open a FULL POWER NON-COMMERCIAL/EDUCATIONAL licensing window for new public radio stations. Non-Commercial Educational (NCE) full power radio licensing has been frozen since 2000, and this will be the first opportunity to apply for more than six years. Groups all over the country have been waiting a long time, so there will be a tremendous number of applications that will be filed. This may be the last opportunity for years to come. The NFCB is working with media democracy groups, attorneys and engineers to provide assistance to community-based groups that are interested to apply. We urge stations with translators to consider upgrading them to fully licensed transmitters. This will provide protection from another station increasing its power or that frequency being assigned to a new station. It may also be possible for you to increase your present wattage to cover more area. Here are documents to help you get started.
