Back to Rural Programming
Initiative
September 2002
Where are you relative to your goals? (For example, if you had a
goal to change the Morning Edition host, have you done it? If not, do
you have a schedule to accomplish it? Or have you changed your mind
and no longer have that as a goal?)
First Goal: Strengthen or change the week noon programming. We have
tightened up our noon local affairs programming and added a musical
variety show (Loafer's Glory) on Tuesdays.
Second Goal: Balance Alternative news and NPR. KVNF has added an extra
1/2 hour of Alternative news on Thursday evening. We have added more
alternative local shows on the Noon Hour.
Third Goal: Strengthen our weekend programming. We have replaced one
of our rather worn out Sunday music shows with a more contemporary sound.
We have added NPR Selected Shorts on Sunday afternoon.
Most of you defined one or two target audiences. Based on the research,
are you reaching those audiences? If not, what are you planning to do
about it?
Yes, we seem to be reaching our target audiences.
What is your current thinking about programming at your station?
What areas are you monitoring? How satisfied are you with the level
of public service you are providing? How do you plan to improve it?
We are very satisfied with our level of public service. KVNF gives a
lot of air time to local affairs, PSA's and entertainment calendars.
There is a good feeling in the community that local voices can be heard
on this station. There is still a basic debate in the community about
whether or not to keep NPR or replace it with all alternative news.
Have you seen a noticeable increase (or decrease) in your listener-sensitive
financial support? (membership, underwriting, community events, etc.)?
No.
